The Dbacks bullpen has struggled this season, <a href="https://www.mlb.com/stats/team/pitching/era?split=rp&amp;sortState=asc">ranking</a> 28th in reliever ERA (5.42) while owning a 1.47 WHIP. With this in mind, the Diamondbacks have signed a former Blue Jays reliever to hopefully provide some depth in the system.</p>

Richards spent parts of four seasons with the Blue Jays, appearing in 195 games for Toronto, posting a 4.75 ERA with an 11.1 K/9 across 221 2/3 innings.</p>

<p>He was acquired in July of 2021 alongside right-hander Bowden Francis in exchange for first baseman Rowdy Tellez, and now Francis is in the big leagues with the Jays (although on the IL at the moment).</p>

<p>With Toronto out of the playoff picture last season, Richards was dealt to the Minnesota Twins at the deadline in exchange for prospect infielder Jay Harry. Through 10 relief appearences with the Twins, Richards would surrender eight hits, six earned runs, and craft a 4.17 FIP and a 4.15 ERA through 13 innings before <a href="https://bluejaysnation.com/news/minnesota-twins-designate-former-blue-jays-reliever-trevor-richards-for-assignment">being designated for assignment</a> on August 27th. Richards would pass through waivers and finish the season in the Twins organization before hitting free agency this past winter.</p>
<p>Richards signed a MiLB deal with the Chicago Cubs this past offseason and didn&#8217;t make the squad out of spring training, starting the year in triple-A. He would be released in early May, having not appeared in a game for Chicago, and signed quickly with the Kansas City Royals on a MiLB contract. He impressed in triple-A Omaha through May, amassing a 1.69 ERA through 10 2/3 innings, and the Royals called him up on June 7th.</p>
<p>He made three appearences for his new team but struggled through the limited sample size, allowing runs in two of those games (four runs total) and surrendered seven hits and two walks with three wild pitches mixed in. The Royals DFA&#8217;d him on June 11th, and after passing through waivers, he elected free agency.</p>
<p>This will be Richards&#8217; seventh organization since making his debut in 2018, and he will hopefully help the Diamondbacks&#8217; relief picture moving forward. Former top prospect Anthony Gose also joins Richards in the Diamondbacks system.</p>
