Game Threat: Make It Happ-en, Blue Jays (43-49) @ Red Sox (52-42)

I would be Happ-y if the Blue Jays won their second game in a row. Would you be Happ-y if those fucking puns were never made again? Too bad. That’s not Happ-ening. J.A. ‘The J stands for Jays and the H stands for Ace” Happ will take the mound tonight as the Jays look to win another against the AL East leading Red Socks at Fenway.
News and Scuttlebutt
There were injury updates today. I covered them in the link above. Long story short for those who didn’t see, Joe Smith is set to be activated tomorrow, Francisco Liriano appears to be good to go tomorrow for his scheduled start, and J.P. Howell has been having a rough time at Triple-A Buffalo during his rehab start.
The Sneakiest Reliever Upgrade on the Market This Summer fangraphs.com/blogs/?p=259330
Here’s an interesting one from Dave Cameron at Fangraphs… He talks about this deadline’s market for relievers and lists our boy Danny Barnes as a great low-key possible buy for a team in need. Would the Jays sell on the young Barnes, who appears to be carving out a future as a mainstay in this ‘pen? Probably not. But regardless, this is a cool article about a very good pitcher who doesn’t get much attention. Danny is good, friends.

And now, the lineups…
J.A. Happ: 3.54 ERA, 61 IP, 9.1 H9, 1.8 HR9, 2/1 BB9, 8.9 SO9
Brian Johnson: 4.29 ERA, 21 IP, 10.3 H9, 2.1 HR9, 2.1 BB9, 7.3 SO9
Xander Bogaerts will sit out today’s game and could ultimately wind up on the disabled list. That doesn’t bode well for the Sox, as him and Mookie Betts are, like, the two guys on that team who have consistently hit the ball well this season. Otherwise, there aren’t any changes for the Jays tonight. It’ll be the gauntlet of right-handed hitters going against Triple-A call-up Brian Johnson.
