West Coast Worst Coast, am I right?! In typical Blue Jays fashion, the team has had a hell of a time working through these sleepy, dull west coast games in Oakland, and now face the possibility of being swept.
News and Scuttlebutt
Here’s something cool. Kristina Rutherford of Sportsnet sat down and did a nice, long talk with Kelly Gruber on pretty much everything you can imagine. Apparently he didn’t like baseball because it’s boring, which, well, yeah, for someone with ADHD that would definitely be the case. He also talked about Colombia and Pablo Escobar. Just read it. You won’t regret it. He’s an interesting dude.
Need something a little more lighthearted? #BlueJays Jeff Beliveau's return to the show should do the trick. thestar.com/sports/bluejay…
And here’s Laura Armstrong with a nice piece on Jeff Beliveau, who’s back in the majors after making a long trek through the minors.

And now, the lineups…
Blue Jays
Francisco Liriano: 33 1/3 IP, 5.94 ERA, 9.5 H9, 1.1 HR9, 6.8 BB9, 9.5 SO9
Athletics
Jharel Cotton: 49 1/3 IP, 5.11 ERA, 8.8 H9, 1.3 HR9, 4.2 BB9, 8.0 SO9
This has been an ugly series for the Jays, but this game is very winnable. Hot prospect Jharel Cotton has some good stuff, but he’s been up and down this season, as you can see based on his ERA and peripherals. Francisco Liriano has been much better than his stats would suggest, as two terrible starts really skew his numbers. Last time out, his first start since returning from the DL, was very good. Another note, Zeke Carrera gets the day off in left after last night’s experience defensively. Chris Coghlan will get the start instead, while Russell Martin also returns to the lineup.
