After an off-day Thursday following a frantic four games against the O’s, the Toronto Blue Jays have touched down in the Bronx to pay a visit to the New York Yankees.
With a new-looking roster in tow and the Blue Jays well out of the playoff picture, a youthful lineup will continue to find their way into the big leagues. One of the Blue Jays’ newest acquisitions, outfielder Joey Loperfido, will bat second in the order tonight as the Jays face an old friend in Marcus Semien.
He debuted for the team Wednesday, going one-for-five and striking out twice at the plate, but that’s no major surprise as he adjusts to the Blue and White. The Jays have him high up in the order, something he hasn’t done much in his rookie season. In fact, beyond one game in the three-hole for the Astros in May, he had never hit higher than sixth in the lineup.
He’ll continue to learn in a trial-by-fire scenario, but he, much like Will Wagner and Jake Bloss, as they adjust to a brand new system.
Brian Serven will catch Kevin Gausman for the Blue Jays today after Alejandro Kirk suffered a left elbow contusion during Wednesday’s game against the Orioles. There’s been no updates about his condition since, but the club claimed Nick Raposo on waivers from the Cardinals Thursday, adding a second catcher to the 40-man roster.
