The Toronto Blue Jays open up a three-game weekend series with the Oakland Athletics, and they can’t take them lightly.
As should be the case with virtually any team in the major leagues, anything can happen. And with an A’s club who, on paper, doesn’t appear to be much of a threat, it would be easy to fall into the trap.
But they’re a team that has hit right around league average at the plate this year, with 41 of 116 games scoring five or more runs, and 20 with seven or more, and seven games racking up 10 or more. The Jays, meanwhile have 52 of 115 games with five or more, 22 with seven or more, but just three of 10 or more.
The Athletics’ biggest issue has once again been their arms on the mound, but they can hit with the best of them when the time is right. Toronto has faced similar issues this season, so this weekend has all the markings of one where lots of offence could be had.
Toronto will send out Jose Berrios Friday night opposite Mitch Spence for the A’s, as the Blue Jays look to build off a series win over the Orioles.
