For the last time, the Toronto Blue Jays will face the Oakland Athletics. Next year, they’ll be the Sacramento Athletics while playing at a minor-league stadium and then they’ll eventually be the Vegas Athletics.
The Blue Jays won the three-game series in Oakland back in early June and will look to win the season series between the two teams on Sunday. Toronto won on Friday by a score of 3-1 and Oakland came back on Saturday with a 1-0 victory.
Former Athletic Chris Bassitt will start against his old club in the series finale. The right-hander has a 3.95 ERA over 23 starts this season and is coming off of an excellent start against the Baltimore Orioles earlier this week. Bassitt allowed only one earned run over eight innings in a no-decision in Oakland back in June. He also held the A’s to one run in eight innings in a win last September.
Going for Oakland will be left-hander JP Sears, who has a 4.35 ERA over 23 starts this season. Sears has thrown back-to-back excellent starts, as he held the Chicago White Sox to one run over seven innings in his last outing and he shut out the San Francisco Giants over seven innings before that. In his only start against the Blue Jays last Septembet, Sears threw five innings and worked around four walks in a winning effort.
