If it was a year ago, at least you could get excited about a series between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Los Angeles Angels, because it would afford a chance to see Shohei Ohtani.
But with the superstar down the road with the Dodgers, and the Blue Jays and Angels both being among the worst teams in all of baseball this year, there isn’t a whole lot to get excited about.
What could get some fans excited, however, is the impending major league debut of infielder Will Wager, who the Jays selected and activated for tonight’s game. Acquired from the Houston Astros in the Yusei Kikuchi deal, Wagner has played in seven games for their Triple-A affiliate Buffalo Bisons, slashing .400/.526/.600 for a 1.116 OPS across 31 plate appearances, walking five times, striking out four, hitting two doubles and adding a home run.
He’s been excellent since joining the organization, and now, will get his first taste of the big leagues.
Bowden Francis gets the mound for the Jays Monday, while the Angels will send out Davis Daniel. Neither have started much this season, with both posting well below average ERA numbers.
