The kids are alright in Toronto, as they’ve been rolling to start off a six-game road trip.
Through the first two games of the Blue Jays’ series against the Los Angeles Angels, their offensive punch has come from the likes of Will Wagner, Vladimir Gurerrero Jr., Leo Jimenez and Spencer Horwitz. The four have all hit for at least a 1.000 OPS, as Wagner has gone five-for-eight at the plate, hitting three doubles, while Jimenez hit his first major league home run on Monday night and Horwitz added one of his own a day later.
While the Jays’ struggles have been real, it’s been invigorating for the fanbase to see the team’s young players arrive in a big way. Guerrero Jr., who had his 22-game hit streak snapped Sunday against the A’s, has come back with a three-for-nine run in this series, hitting a single, double and a home run.
Toronto will look to continue to build on that, and strong pitching performances from Bowden Francis and Kevin Gausman, as they close out the series against the Halos on Wednesday night. Jose Berrios will take the mound for the Jays opposite of lefty Tyler Anderson, who earned the second all-star nod of his career earlier this year.
