It’s hard not to love random statistics, especially in baseball.
The Los Angeles Angels have a unique one, losing each of their last 10 games played on August 23rd, according to this BrooksGate tweet.
The Jays helped pile on two of those losses in 2015 and 2016, racking up the runs in both games.
Today’s team will hope that offence could be replicated at the Rogers Centre, as the Angels are sending out Jack Kochanowicz and his 6.53 ERA to the mound. The 23-year-old rookie has made four starts for them this year, two in July and another pair in August, getting shelled for four and seven earned runs in his first two games, but just two each in his last two games.
The Jays, however, will do so without Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who gets a rare off day Friday.
Chris Bassitt gets the start for Toronto, working through a tough stretch since the middle of July. In his six most recent starts, he’s carried a 7.11 ERA, getting shelled for over five or more earned runs against the Detroit Tigers, Baltimore Orioles and the Oakland Athletics.
