The Blue Jays are off to Atlanta to kick off a three-game weekend series against the Braves.
It opens Friday night with Kevin Gausman taking the mound opposite Max Fried, continuing Saturday evening with Jose Berrios squaring up with rookie Spencer Schwellenbach. Yariel Rodriguez will close out the series against Chris Sale.
Toronto made a roster move ahead of the series opener, mixing up the bullpen, optioning lefty Brandon Eisert to Triple-A Buffalo, and recalling righty Luis Frias, who will make his Jays debut wearing No. 63, last worn by Anthony Castro in 2021. Frias was claimed off waivers nearly a month ago, making eight appearances with the Bisons. He’s thrown eight and one-third innings with them, allowing no earned runs, six hits and four walks.
The weekend serves to be a tough one, given the Braves have gotten great production from their rotation this season. Only two Jays have taken at-bats against Fried before, with Daulton Varsho taking a walk in two plate appearances, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. getting one hit in five plate appearances.
They’ll hit in the 2 and 3 holes, respectively, and will need to help lead the offensive charge as usual.
