After dropping Game 1 of their three-game series against the New York Mets, the Toronto Blue Jays bounced back Tuesday with Chris Bassitt helping lead the way.
The Jays got up early with a four-run third inning, holding onto their lead and never looking back.
This afternoon, Bowden Francis will take the mound for the Jays coming off a performance a week ago where he allowed three earned runs against the Phillies. It marked the first time since July 29th he allowed more than one in a game, putting an end to a streak in which he was one of the hottest pitchers in baseball. Over a five-game stretch, he posted a 1.06 ERA across 34 innings, and he’ll look to regain his form against the Mets today.
New York, meanwhile, will send lefty Sean Manaea to the mound. He’s been consistent across his last six starts, allowing three earned runs in four of those, four earned runs in one, and zero in another. While he’s limited opposing hitters to a .163 batting average, he’s also coughed up one home run against per game on average, pushing his OPS to .588.
Still a low number, the Jays have been one of baseball’s best slugging teams since the All-Star break, and they’ll look to do damage against Manaea.
