The Toronto Blue Jays and Tampa Bay Rays opened a three-game weekend series at Tropicana Field on Friday and the visiting team was shut out by a score of 1-0. It was the ninth time that the Blue Jays had been held to zero runs in a game this season and it also guaranteed that the Rays would take the season series between the two teams.
Taking the mound for the Blue Jays in the second game of the series on Saturday afternoon will be right-hander Yariel Rodriguez. In his first season in the Major Leagues, the 27-year-old has a 4.29 ERA over 19 starts with 77 strikeouts and 35 walks in 77 2/3 innings. Rodriguez has made one start against the Rays this season and allowed two runs over five-and-two-thirds innings.
Going for the Rays will be right-hander Taj Bradley, who has a 4.39 ERA over 23 starts in his second season in the big leagues. Tampa’s fifth-round pick from the 2018 MLB Draft, Bradley has racked up 143 strikeouts over 127 innings pitched this season. Back in July, he shut the Blue Jays down over six innings of work and struck out seven batters.
