While it may not have had some of the fireworks we should anticipate every time Manoah&#8217;s on the mound opposite Gerritt Cole and the Yankees, he looked every part himself that we&#8217;ve seen in 2021 and 2022. He threw seven innings while only giving up two hits, no runs, one walk, and five strikeouts, and found himself in a bit of a jam in the 3rd, but worked his way out of it.
He was locating pitches and limiting walks — both items he&#8217;s struggled with this season. It&#8217;s great news for The Big Man, and it&#8217;s a real shame the bullpen failed him.
Nonetheless, we&#8217;re back at it today as the Jays look to close out this series with a win. Kevin Gausman will go up against Clarke Schmidt, who has had his fair share of struggles this season for the Yankees. It&#8217;s good news for the Jays, however, as with Daulton Varsho batting cleanup, they&#8217;re looking to expose a matchup.
As noted by our <a href="https://twitter.com/ThomasHall85/status/1650148477723201539">own Thomas Hall</a>, Schmidt is throwing 38% cutters to left-handed batters this season, and last year, Varsho mashed against cutters with a .429 AVG, .905 SLG, .564 wOBA &amp; +7 RV statline.
