The Toronto Blue Jays’ two-series road trip continues Monday leaving San Diego with wins in two of three games against the Padres.
Now, they’ll square up with a Royals team off to a great start to the season, going 13-9 off the back of above average offence and pitching. Their pitching staff, led by the likes of Seth Lugo and Brady Singer, the latter of whom the Jays see tonight, have been rock solid to start the season and are getting great contributions from their bullpen, save for Will Smith’s shaky 12.38 ERA.
Offensively, they’ve been led by Salvador Perez and the speedy Bobby Witt Jr., both of whom have carved up opposing pitchers. They, along with Vannie Pasquantino, have been the biggest pushers of that offence, but have had some issues against lefties this year. Down the lineup is where the Royals bats have hit well against lefties, so Yusei Kikuchi will need to remain sharp on the mound.
The Jays’ offence, meanwhile, has come to life in recent weeks, looking different since the start of their homestand. It’s what’s helped propel the Jays to their 12-10 record, and now, they’ll have a tough task staying hot against Singer, who has dazzled early with a 1.54 ERA.
