The Toronto Blue Jays will return Davis Schneider to the leadoff positon for the third time this season Monday as they take on the Baltimore Orioles.
It comes with George Springer, who missed time last week due to illness, on the bench, and it’s another great opportunity for Schneider to take advantage. In his two starts and three appearances there, he’s had eight at-bats going 4-for-8, talking a walk, hitting a home run and driving in two RBI’s.
Schneider has undeniably been the Blue Jays’ most valuable player this year, leading the team in batting average, on-base percentage and slugging, with a 154 OPS+ towering Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s 119, which ranks second on the club. In short, he’s been nothing but excellent for the Jays.
Toronto will be in tough Monday against the Orioles, who have been off to an excellent start this season as they send Corbin Burnes to the mound. It marks his first start against the Jays while in the AL East, and he’ll undeniably be tough for the Jays to get to.
On the flip side, the Jays are sending out Jose Berrios, who looks to rebound after his worst start of the year last week against the Phillies. Berrios, however, has struggled against the Orioles, allowing a .763 OPS or better to all of Ryan Mountcastle, Anthony Santander, Cedric Mullins, Ryan O’Hearn, Jared McCann and Adley Rutschman.
This could get ugly.
