The Toronto Blue Jays opened up their road series against the Chicago White Sox with a 5-1 win on Monday afternoon and they’ll look to turn that into a winning streak on Tuesday evening.
Kevin Gausman will take the mound for the Blue Jays in the second match of this three-game set. He was excellent in Toronto’s only win during their four-game series with the Detroit Tigers last week, as he struck out ten batters and allowed just one run over six innings of work. The righty owns a 4.47 ERA for the season over ten starts, though his 3.15 FIP suggests he’s dealt with some poor luck.
It was supposed to be Mike Clevenger going for the White Sox, but he was placed on the 15-day Injured List with elbow soreness. Coming up from Triple-A in Clevenger’s absence will be right-hander Jake Woodford, who owns a 4.29 ERA over 80 appearances at the big-league level.
Woodford was selected in the first round of the 2015 MLB draft by the St. Louis Cardinals and had spent his entire professional career with the club before signing a minor-league deal with the White Sox last winter. He’s made ten starts for Chicago’s Triple-A affiliate this season and has a 5.26 ERA.
