The Toronto Blue Jays will turn to right-hander José Berríos as they look to enter back into the win column after two embarrassing losses to the Baltimore Orioles earlier this week.
It’s a pretty normal lineup for the Blue Jays, the only difference being that Alejandro Kirk will be behind the plate while Danny Jansen gets a night off. Davis Schneider will lead off the contest while left-handed hitting Daulton Varsho will follow him with a right-hander on the mound for the Orioles. Bichette slides into the four-hole while George Springer moves up a spot to fifth while Justin Turner, tonight’s DH, will slot sixth.
The Jays burned through six different pitchers yesterday so the hope will be that Berríos will be able to get through a good chunk of the Orioles lineup and pitch deep into the game to not tax the bullpen as much. The right-hander faced the O’s back on May 13th at Camden Yards and he went seven innings, allowing just three hits and two earned runs on the day. Both of those runs came via the long ball with Adley Rutschman hitting two solo jacks off the Puerto Rican starter.
Across the diamond, the Jays will have to contend with Rutschman, Gunnar Henderson, Anthony Santander, and Ryan Mountcastle – who crushed two home runs yesterday to score five runs for the birds. The Orioles will also bring in six left-handed bats to counter the Jays starter.
On the mound will be Albert Suárez, who has made two turns in the rotation as of late and has five starts under his belt this season through 12 appearances. He has never faced Toronto as a starter.
Fans who arrive early enough to the ballpark will receive a City Connect backpack.
