The Blue Jays will look to avoid being swept for the first time this season, as they play the third and final game against the Boston Red Sox.
Despite calling up Orelvis Martinez on Tuesday, the top power-hitting prospect in the organization still hasn’t appeared in the Jays’ lineup, not starting for the second consecutive game since the recall. Although he played for the Vancouver Canadians at the tail end of the 2021 season, Martinez has yet to play baseball in Canada, as Vancouver’s home games were in Everett that season.
The Blue Jays lost in disappointing fashion on Tuesday, but the “Buffalo Boys” had a great showing. Spencer Horwitz led off the bottom of the first with a double that nearly left the park, with the Jays failing to cash him in.
Davis Schneider and Ernie Clement also had a double, with the latter scoring Addison Barger. Also scoring was Justin Turner, who hits second on Wednesday.
Turner was brutal in May, it’s well documented. However, the 39-year-old is slashing .275/.403/.412 with a homer, four doubles, and a higher BB% (16.1%) than K% (14.5%) for a 142 wRC+ since May 28.
Clement for some reason isn’t in the lineup, which is shocking given his production over the past week. Since June 8, Clement is slashing .579/.579/1.000 with a home run, five doubles, and 11 hits in 19 plate appearances. Why isn’t he in the lineup?
