On Saturday, the Blue Jays will look to avoid losing their second straight series.

After losing 7-1 to the Cleveland Guardians on Friday, the Jays have now lost four straight games and are five games below .500. For context, the most games under .500 they’ve been this season is six, back on May 26, when they had a 23-29 record.
However, we’re officially in summer now, and the trade deadline is just a little over a month away. At some point soon, the Blue Jays will need to decide whether they’re selling at this deadline, or foolishly buying.
Players who could net the Jays some prospects include soon-to-be free agents Danny Jansen, Yusei Kikuchi, and Yimi García. Justin Turner and Kevin Kiermaier could help a playoff team as well, while players with term like Jordan Romano could also be in play.
If the Jays can’t re-sign either Vladimir Guerrero Jr. or Bo Bichette, this is the best time to move either of those players as the team acquiring them would have two playoff runs with them. Honestly, this may be the way to go as both players will be free agents at the end of next season.
Speaking of Guerrero Jr., he accounted for the only Blue Jays run last night with a solo home run. Gate 14’s Avery Chenier noted on June 17 that Guerrero Jr. hadn’t had an extra-base hit off of 363 four-seam fastballs, but that home run finally broke that spell.

The lineup, as we’ll get to in a bit, is frustrating. George Springer moved up to the fourth spot for some reason. Isiah Kiner-Falefa is the lead-off hitter, moving Spencer Horwitz to the two-hole while Davis Schneider will bat sixth.
After hitting a single for his first MLB hit, Orelvis Martinez is out of the lineup for the third time in four games he’s been available for. Addison Barger is also out of the lineup, which is quite disappointing. Ernie Clement is back in the lineup.
