That&#8217;s all the Toronto Blue Jays need in the next two days to win their first series out of the All-Star break. They got a big boost Friday against the Arizona Diamondbacks in thanks to a Vladimir Guerrero Jr. home run and a great seventh inning that saw the Jays rack up five runs en route to a 7-2 win.
While the Jays won&#8217;t be going with their scheduled starter, Kevin Gausman, who woke up with discomfort in his left side, Chris Bassitt will take the mound against a lineup with some potent lefthanded bats.
Bassitt has really struggled against lefties this season allowing a .403 wOBA — far and away worse than his .242 wOBA allowed to right-handed batters.
The top of the Diamondbacks lineup features switch hitters in Geraldo Perdomo and Ketel Marte with Corbin Carroll, who has demolished right-handed pitchers this season. As a left-handed bat, he&#8217;s racked up a staggering 1.130 OPS and 196 wRC+ against righties like Bassitt this season.
Let&#8217;s see if the vet can keep a young Diamondbacks club in check.
