There’s been a common trend in each of the last two series for the Toronto Blue Jays: lose Game 1, win Games 2 and 3.
It happened against each of the Seattle Mariners and San Francisco Giants, and now, the Jays will hope to replicate it heading into the All-Star break. While the Jays built up a nice 4-2 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth inning in Friday night’s game, their bullpen once again blew up in their faces like a Bugs Bunny skit, allowing two runs to score that inning, and another in the ninth for the Diamondbacks to walk it off.
C’est la vie for these Blue Jays.
In tonight’s late Game 2 against Arizona, Jose Berrios will take the mound for the Jays opposite Yilber Diaz, a 23-year-old who has been working his way up the Diamondbacks ranks over the years. Tonight will mark his second Major League start, having started a July 8th game against the Atlanta Braves where he allowed one earned run off four hits and a walk across six innings, while also fanning five batters.
Bo Bichette, meanwhile, will miss his second straight game dealing with a calf issue.
