<p>The next step in Jyun Jin Ryu&#8217;s return from Tommy John surgery will be a start for the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons.</p>

<p>The big lefty was on the field at the Rogers Centre in Toronto with Blue Jays training staff on Friday and he&#8217;ll head to Buffalo to start for the Bisons on Saturday evening.</p>
<p>Ryu made six starts for the Blue Jays in 2022 and posted a 5.67 ERA. He went on the 10-day Injured List with an elbow issue in April and it was announced in June that he would be shut down for the season and that he would undergo Tommy John surgery.</p>
<p>Given the fact he was 35 years old at the time of the surgery, there was reason to believe that Ryu had made his last appearance with the Blue Jays, and perhaps in the Major Leagues all told. Just a little over one year after the surgery, Ryu has made two rehab appearances and is on track to join the Blue Jays down the stretch.</p>
<p>In his first rehab outing in the Florida Complex League, Ryu allowed one earned run on four hits while striking out five. After that, he joined the Low-A Dunedin Blue Jays and tossed four scoreless frames with no walks and one strikeout.</p>
<p>The plan for Ryu, <a href="https://twitter.com/bnicholsonsmith/status/1679950137513201665?s=20">according to Sportsnet&#8217;s Ben Nicholson-Smith</a>, is for him to make a few starts with the Bisons before joining the Blue Jays. He&#8217;s expected to throw around 65 pitches on Saturday and the team wants to build him up to at least 85 pitches before he&#8217;s activated to the big-league roster.</p>
