There’s good news and bad news.
The bad news is that the Blue Jays lost 9-3 to the Washington Nationals, bringing their season record to 15-18. The good news, on the other hand, is that the game is done.
Once again, the Blue Jays scored all their runs early in the game, scoring three in the top of the second, including a Daulton Varsho double that scored Danny Jansen and Davis Schneider. Toronto added another one on a George Springer sac fly, making it a 3-0 game.
Washington would get one back in the next half inning, as youngster CJ Abrams hit a ground ball single, making it a 3-1 game. It would stay this way until the bottom of the seventh.
With Yusei Kikuchi lifted after six innings, the Blue Jays went to Erik Swanson, which turned out to be a disaster. He walked the first batter he saw, allowed a hit to former Blue Jay Riley Adams, before Luis García hit a three-run home run.
The Nationals would go on to score an additional five runs, putting up four runs in the bottom of the seventh and eighth to put the game out of reach.

Things worth mentioning…

Yusei Kikuchi had a terrific game and deserved the win. He finished with a line of 6 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 K to bring his season ERA to 2.72. Starting pitching hasn’t been the issue this season.
Erik Swanson was tagged with the loss, giving up three earned runs in his outing, not getting an out. The runs brought his season ERA to 18, which is a problem. Hopefully he can get it going soon.
Génesis Cabrera pitched two thirds of an inning and walked three batters. Although four runs were given up while he was on the mound, all four were unearned as Isiah Kiner-Falefa was tagged with an error.
All but two starters, George Springer and Bo Bichette, failed to register a hit today. Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Davis Schneider, Daulton Varsho, and Danny Jansen all had doubles. Would be nice to hit some home runs soon, though.
Up next: The Jays return to action on Saturday at 4:05 PM ET with Kevin Gausman on the mound. It’ll also be back on Sportsnet, so that’s fun.
