A pretty brutal day for the Blue Jays organization ended alright.

On Wednesday night, the Blue Jays took on the San Francisco Giants in the second of three games, defeating the National League West team 10-6 to bring their record to 42-50.
It seemed like it was going to be a “oh crap, here we go again” type scenario, as the Giants scored two runs in the bottom of the first thanks to two singles from Michael Conforot and Thairo Estrada. Through the first four innings, Aleandjro Kirk was the only Blue Jays batter to register a hit, as well.

That changed in the top of the fifth though, as Davis Schneider and Alejandro Kirk each hit a single, before Ernie Clement hit his second three-run home run in as many days to give Toronto a 3-2 lead. Conforto singled in Patrick Bailey in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game, but then the Blue Jays’ bats really got going.

In the top of the sixth, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. doubled to lead off the inning, with Justin Turner driving him in with a single. Leo Jiménez hit his first big league double, before Davis Schneider drove him in with a single. After the pitching change, 6’11” Sean Hjelle allowed a single to 5’8” Alejandro Kirk to make it 6-3. The runs didn’t stop there though, as Clement hit a single to score a run, before George Springer hit his first of two doubles to make it 9-3.

Once again, the Giants would answer with a run of their own in the bottom of the sixth, but Springer’s double to drive in Clement in the top of the eighth made this game out of reach. Patrick Bailey and Matt Chapman hit back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the ninth, but the Jays won this one 10-6.
<h2>Things worth mentioning</h2>
Chris Bassitt didn’t have the most efficient outing, but he got the job done as he finished with a line of 5 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 4 BB, 6 K to bring his season ERA to 3.52. He really settled in after the first two innings and picked up his eighth win of the season.
Ryan Burr may be a dude, as he pitched two clean innings with a strikeout. Brendon Little allowed a run in two thirds of an inning, with Zach Pop generating a fly out from Matt Chapman to end a scoring threat. Bowden Francis allowed two earned runs via the long ball in the bottom of the ninth.
Alejandro Kirk had an interesting game, to say the least. Offensively, he was great as he had three singles while driving in a run. Defensively, this was his worst game in a while, allowing his second passed ball of the season along with a wild pitch.
Speaking of great games, you could point to quite a few players who had terrific games. Ernie Clement had three hits as well with four RBIs and a three-run shot. Davis Schneider had two singles, while Leo Jiménez hit a single and his first double in the big leagues. George Springer hit two doubles with three RBIs. Just a great day for the bats.
It still wasn’t great though as both Bo Bichette and Daulton Varsho left this game with an injury. The former’s calf flared up, while the latter bruised his knee sliding into first base. Pair that with injuries to Ricky Tiedemann and Adam Macko, and it was a pretty bad day in the organization.
Up next: The Blue Jays look to win their second consecutive series on Thursday, as they’ll play the rubber match at 3:45 PM ET. They have a chance to win four of their last five heading into the final series before the All-Star break.
