Back-to-back games with a triple for Daulton Varsho! 👏

Oh look, the Blue Jays lost again.
You know the drill, the Blue Jays played on Saturday night and fell 12-1 to the Arizona Diamondbacks, dropping their record to 43-52. Are they sellers yet?
Arizona jumped out to a 1-0 lead thanks to a Joc Pederson in the bottom of the first, before the Blue Jays promptly answered with a sac fly to tie the game at one. That was all they’d get though, as the Diamondbacks would score two runs in the bottom of the second thanks to a single from José Herrera and a sac fly from Corbin Carroll.
Starter José Berríos would allow two more runs in the bottom of the fourth, as Ketel Marte and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. each hit a single to make it a 5-1 game before Berríos was pulled.
The score remained the same, as Bowden Francis threw two scoreless innings giving up two walks, a hit, and strikeout. Zach Pop was the next batter out of the pen, giving up a home run to Carroll to make it 8-1.
Corbin with the 3-run oppo taco!!
Nate Pearson didn’t fare much better in his inning of work, giving up four earned runs, as both Eugenio Suárez and Carroll each hit a home run, making it 12-1. Not great.
Corbin Carroll hits his 2nd HR of the night. He has driven in 6 of the @Dbacks' 12 runs.
Things worth mentioning…
José Berríos had a great start to his season, but it’s been tough going for him recently. Since May 7, he has a 5.50 ERA and a FIP of 5.70 coming into this game. Overall, he has a 4.01 ERA and a 5.13 FIP in 119 innings pitched. Not the worst, but the Jays really need him to be better.
The bullpen had a rough one, as Zach Pop gave up two earned runs (three total runs) while Nate Pearson gave up three earned runs while also striking out the side, go figure. Bowden Francis was the only pitcher who found any success, pitching two scoreless innings.
The bats were rather cold, as they totalled just five hits during the day. Spencer Horwitz hit his fifth double and also had a single, while Daulton Varsho hit his fifth triple and his second in as many days. Leo Jiménez hit a single and was hit by a pitch, Alejandro Kirk walked and hit a single, and Davis Schneider walked twice.
Up next: The Blue Jays play their third and final game against the Diamondbacks, and will try to avoid being swept for only the third time this season. More importantly, the 2024 draft will start around the same time that the game ends.
