Ladies and gentlemen, it’s so over.

On Friday evening, the Toronto Blue Jays hosted the New York Yankees for the second of four games. It didn’t go well, as they fell 16-5 to bring their season record to 37-44.
George Springer singled in the first run of the game to give the Jays a 1-0 lead early in the first inning. The Yankees tied it in the top of fourth inning, followed by two runs thanks to a Vladimir Guerrero Jr. ground out and a Springer hit by pitch.

That was the high-point of the game for the Jays. Juan Soto hit a three-run shot in the sixth inning, before Gleyber Torres hit a two-run home run to make it 7-3 for the Yankees. Isiah Kiner-Falefa hit his seventh home run of the season in the bottom of the sixth to make it 7-4.

Toronto added another run in the bottom of the seventh inning, as Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit his 12th homer of the season. He’s been terrific since the start of May, and the Jays should look to extend him as soon as possible.

The Yankees scored two in the top of the eighth, followed by seven in the top of the ninth, giving the Yankees the 16-5 win.
<h2>Things worth mentioning…</h2>
Yusei Kikuchi had a good outing, until the sixth inning. Overall, he finished with a line of 5+ IP, 4 H, 4 ER, 1 BB, 7 K to bring his season ERA to 4.18. Not a great game.
Génesis Cabrera was the only reliever to throw a clean inning, striking out a batter in an inning of work. Trevor Richards didn’t allow an earned run in an inning of work, but the same cannot be said for Nate Pearson (three earned runs in an inning) and Bowden Francis (two earned runs in an inning).
Tim Mayza had a rough one. He gave up five hits and five earned runs while not retiring a batter. His season ERA now sits at 8.03 and his 22 earned runs are already more than the 17 he gave up last season.
Isiah Kiner-Falefa hit his seventh home run of the season, just one shy of his career-best. This season, he’s slashing .286/.335/.415 with a 115 wRC+. What a great signing he is.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has been hot in recent times, hitting his fifth home run since June 21. For the season, the 25-year-old is slashing .291/.371/.456 with 12 homers in 356 plate appearances for a 138 wRC+.
Up next: The Blue Jays look to have a better game on Saturday, as Chris Bassitt will be on the mound at 3:07 PM ET against Nestor Cortes. They just have to do better than this.
