Make it four consecutive wins for the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Blue Jays had a chance to sweep the Seattle Mariners on Sunday, doing just that thanks to a 9-1 victory to reach the .500 mark for the first time since May 2. Let’s take a look at what happened in this one!

In the top of the second, the Blue Jays opened the scoring thanks to a Myles Straw RBI Single, driving in Nathan Lukes for the 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the third, the Mariners scored their only run thanks to Dylan Moore’s seventh home run of the season.

It was all the Blue Jays from there. They restored their lead in the top of the fourth, as Ernie Clement hit a sacrifice fly to make it a 2-1 game. In the top of the fifth, the Jays broke the game open with one swing of the bat, as George Springer hit a three-run blast to give the Jays a 5-1 lead.

In the top of the sixth, Jonatan Clase hit a two-run double, his first of the season. How fitting is it that he put the nail in the coffin against his former team? Addison Barger made it an 8-1 game with one swing of the bat, hitting his first home run of the season. Thankfully, it wasn’t that wretched score for long, as Lukes hit an RBI single to give the Jays a 9-1 lead.

Born in Bellevue, Washington, Addison Barger torched his hometown team this past week, going 6-13 with a walk and four extra-base hits. Of the six hits, the lowest exit velocity was on his single in the top of the ninth, a 103.5 mph rip. His wRC+ is now up to 104 this season in 59 plate appearances.

Who saw George Springer being tied for the team lead in home runs nearly a month and a half into the season? So far, he’s slashing .297/.404/.517 with five home runs in 143 plate appearances for a 163 wRC+. Step one for the Blue Jays to contend this season was Springer rebounding, and he’s done just that.

The Jays had 15 hits in this game, with Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. combining for just one hit. Most of the Blue Jays’ offence came from the bottom half of the lineup, as Nathan Lukes and Ernie Clement each had three hits, while Myles Straw hit another clutch single and Jonatan Clase drove in two. Barger and Springer each had two-hit games.

Alejandro Kirk hit a double in this game to raise his batting average to .286. Unfortunately, he was taken out of the game after two plate appearances as he was hit with a backswing in the bottom of the third. Hopefully, it’s nothing serious.

Jose Urena started the game, pitching two + innings, giving up an earned run on a home run. Eric Lauer pitched the bulk of the game, going four and two-thirds innings with five strikeouts. Yariel Rodriguez pitched a clean inning and a third with two strikeouts, while Braydon Fisher made his big league debut, throwing a scoreless ninth.

The Blue Jays are off on Monday, but return to Rogers Centre on Tuesday at 7:07 PM ET to host the Tampa Bay Rays. It’ll be the first time they face their American League East division rivals this season.
