Another game, another disappointing loss.
On Friday night, the Blue Jays played the first of three against the Arizona Diamondbacks, falling 5-4 to bring their record to 43-51.
The Diamondbacks took a 2-0 lead, as Corbin Carroll singled in Kevin Newman in the bottom of the third, while former Blue Jay Randal Grichuk hit a triple in the bottom of the fourth, one of three triples on the evening.
However, the Blue Jays fought back thanks to an Alejandro Kirk single and an Ernie Clement double to put runners on second and third. Kevin Kiermaier drove in Kirk with a ground out.
Then the Jays lived up to their small ball potential, as Spencer Horwitz drove in George Springer in the top of the sixth to tie the game. For the second straight inning, a Blue Jays batter (Daulton Varsho) led off the inning with a triple, before Clement drove him in with a sac fly.
In the top of the eighth, the first three batters reached thanks to singles, allowing Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to hit another sac fly. However, they weren’t able to cash in any more runs thanks to a Justin Turner ground into double play.
Then came the bad stuff. After one out, Trevor Richards walked the batter, before getting Grichuk to strike out with a changeup. Eugenio Suárez walked putting runners on first and second. A wild pitch moved the runners up a station before Alek Thomas cashed in both runners with a single.
Three straight walks in the bottom of the ninth loaded the bases, and Geraldo Perdomo walked it off with a sac fly.

Things worth mentioning…

Yariel Rodríguez had an okay game, finishing with a line of 4 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 7 K to bring his season ERA to 3.78. All in all, a solid game for the 27-year-old.
Trevor Richards had more blown saves (three) this season than he has saved in his career (one). He’s a solid pitcher, but he’s not a guy you want in high-leverage. His last two outings are an indication of that, as he’s blown both leads.
There were three extra-base hits from the Jays, as George Springer and Daulton Varsho each hit a triple, and Ernie Clement had a single. Spencer Horwitz, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Alejandro Kirk, and Leo Jiménez each had a single.
Up next: The Blue Jays return to action on Saturday at 10:10 PM ET, playing the second of three against Arizona. José Berríos has the start against Yilber Diaz.
