Jays prospect Ricky Tiedemann impresses in his Double A debut

Just like Alek Manoah, Ricky Tiedemann has “it”.
The 19-year-old was drafted in the third round of the 2021 draft. There is a chance that he will become one of the best players in that draft, in fact, he may be close already.
The ascension of Ricky Tiedemann has been a whirlwind this season. He started his professional career with the Dunedin Blue Jays in Low A, posting a 1.80 ERA and 2.08 FIP in 30 innings pitched. He had a 44.5 K% and an 11.8 BB%.
You’d think a promotion to a higher level where he’s four years younger would pose an issue for the 19-year-old? Not a chance. In High A Vancouver, he posted a 2.39 ERA and a 2.73 FIP in 37.2 innings pitched. He had a 36 K% and an 8 BB%.
The thing is, he actually dominated the first five games he pitched in at that level. In 23.2 innings pitched he had a 0.38 ERA and a 1.53 FIP, along with a 38.9 K% and a 5.6 BB%. However, his last three starts before his promotion weren’t quite as dominant statistically.

Either way, he spent time on the development list to work on some things before making his debut tonight.
Tiedemann was one of the youngest pitchers in High A, but he is the second youngest pitcher in Double A, only behind Eury Perez of the Marlins. The young lefty didn’t look out of place in his debut with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.

In three innings, he had a line of 1 hit, 0 earned runs, one walk, and FIVE strikeouts.
As for his batted ball profile, he had three ground balls (good), one fly ball, and one line drive. Striking out five players aside, the fact he kept the ball on the ground is equally as impressive.

Sadly, he was only slated to go three innings, but if you don’t have MiLB TV, Ricky Tiedemann is well worth the purchase.
