Joe Mantiply strikes out two in rehab outing with Triple-A Buffalo

Joe Mantiply is getting closer to returning to the Toronto Blue Jays roster. 
On Tuesday night, Mantiply appeared with Triple-A Buffalo during their 6-3 victory over the Rochester Red Wings. 
Mantiply turned in a pitching line of 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, throwing 25 pitches (13 strikes) in his longest outing since attempting to work his way back to the big leagues following left knee surgery. 
After getting Trey Lipscomb to fly out to right fielder Rudy Martin Jr., Mantiply walked Cayden Wallace on six pitches. With Wallace on first, Mantiply picked off the 25-year-old to erase the threat. 
With no one on and two outs, Mantiply got Red Wings catcher Maxwell Romero Jr. swinging on a 3-2, 86.5 MPH sinker to end his first frame of the night. 
Coming back out to begin the bottom of the eighth inning, Mantiply once again won a six-pitch battle, this time getting Sam Petersen to ground out to shortstop Jay Harry on an 86.5 MPH sinker. 
For his final batter of the night, Mantiply made quick work of Liover Peguero. Ahead 1-2 in the count, Mantiply got Peguero swinging on a 79.1 MPH changeup before being replaced by right-hander Beau Philip. 
Signed by the Blue Jays to a minor league contract in March, Mantiply pitched in 17 games with the club after having his contract selected on April 5. Through his 17 outings, Mantiply is 1-0 with a 2.04 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP. The left-hander has struck out 16 batters across 17.2 innings pitched and held opponents to a .254 average.
