It wasn’t a wild one like Monday night, but all that matters is the result. With another win over the Yankees on Tuesday, the Blue Jays are now on the verge of a sweep.

Things worth mentioning…

  • Taijuan Walker got the start and, for the first time as a member of the Blue Jays, ran into some difficulties. He got the first two outs in the first inning quickly but then completely lost his command, walking the next three batters. Walker managed to escape the inning without any damage by getting Matt Tauchman to fly out on a 3-1 count. In the second, Walker allowed a double and a walk, but, again managed to pitch around it. By the third and fourth, he finally started to find a groove, opting to use his slider more, but ended up going only four innings due to how many pitches he had to throw to work the first two. All told, he tossed four scoreless innings, allowing two hits and five walks. He really earned the name Walker in this game… HEYYYYOOOO! Jokes aside, it was an ugly showing for Walker, but it was good work on his part to still battle to put up four scoreless frames. This game easily could have gone sideways quickly.
  • With Walker leaving the game after four, the bullpen was faced with a huge task. Shun Yamaguchi came in and allowed one earned run over a couple of innings of work to bridge the gap to the late-inning guys and then the door was completely slammed shut. A.J. Cole, Anthony Kay, and Rafael Dolis were completely untouchable, each tossing a scoreless frame and not allowing a single Yank to reach base.
  • There wasn’t any room for error, either. J.A. Happ started for the Yankees and was mostly dominant, allowing just a couple of runs over six-and-a-third. The only damage the Blue Jays did came in the second inning when Jonathan Davis came up and smashed a completely out-of-the-blue two-run dinger in his first at-bat of the season. Remember, given the fact there aren’t minor-league games this year, this was literally his first at-bat of the season.
  • With the win, the Jays are now three games up on New York in the standings. Also, the Yankees are at .500 in the month of September for the first time since 1995. Finish em off tomorrow.
