José Berríos tosses another quality start as the Blue Jays edge out the Mets

The bats may not have made the trip to New York but the pitchers have certainly stepped up.
After a 3-0 win in the series-opener on Friday, the Blue Jays clinched their series at Citi Field with the Mets with a 2-1 win on Saturday. They’ll send Yusei Kikuchi to the mound on Sunday looking for the sweep.
Things worth mentioning…
- José Berríos put together another quality start for the Blue Jays, as he scattered one earned run on four hits and three walks over six innings of work. He had a couple of rocky starts to kick off the season in Kansas City and Anaheim, but, since then, Berríos has settled nicely into a groove with quality starts in six of his last nine outings. It’s safe to say the workhorse the Blue Jays traded for in the summer of 2021 is back.
- Jordan Romano wasn’t available in this game but the bullpen still got the job done without much trouble. Trevor Richards pitched a scoreless seventh, Nate Pearson tossed a clean frame in the eighth, and Erik Swanson came in for the ninth to record his first save as a Blue Jay.
- This wasn’t a banner day offensively for the Blue Jays but they managed to scrape two runs across the plate, which is all they needed. Brandon Belt hit a leadoff double in the sixth inning and later came around to score and Vladdy Jr. smacked a clutch double to score George Springer in the top of the ninth inning.
