<p>Fresh off of getting tagged for 10 runs by the Baltimore Orioles, ESPN dropped a nugget involving Justin Verlander and the Toronto Blue Jays.</p>

Verlander said that sticking around with the Houston Astros was at the top of his list but the Blue Jays were right in the mix&#8230;</p>

Some other teams really started to show a lot of interest. I would say that the leader was probably Toronto. They were great. And I talked to George (Springer, his former Astros teammate now with the Blue Jays) a bunch. They were very proactive to the point that when I signed with Houston, I made sure to let them know that I appreciated it all. Ultimately, when it came down to it, Houston had the same offer. It was all kind of ballpark between them and Toronto, and New York (Yankees) was kind of always just a step behind.&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p>Verlander wound up inking a one-year deal with the Astros worth $25 million with a player option for 2023 also at $25 million. Through 12 starts this season, Verlander has an 8-2 record and a sparkling 1.94 ERA.</p>
<p>Woof. Just imagine this rotation with Verlander in it. I&#8217;d probably feel a lot better about this upcoming series with the New York Yankees if he was going rather than Yusei Kikuchi, but alas.</p>
