Per #BlueJays, Kevin Gausman was scratched from today’s start with left side discomfort. An MRI “showed no concerns” per the club and Gausman is described as day-to-day. Chris Bassitt starts instead.

So that’s not good.
According to Sportsnet’s Ben Nicholson-Smith, Kevin Gausman has been scratched from Saturday’s start with left-side discomfort.
While there is still concern amongst the Blue Jays fan base, an MRI revealed no issues, and he is day-to-day. Perhaps he just slept on his side oddly.
In his place, Chris Bassitt will start the game on full rest, as the all-star break has allowed the Blue Jays to shuffle their rotation. The second-half opening day starter was José Berríos, who went 5.1 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K.
Hopefully, this is not a long-term injury, as the depth of starting pitching is quite thin. Prior to the last series before the All-Star game, the Blue Jays were running a four-man rotation as Alek Manoah fine-tuned his game. If this ends up being an injured-list stint, Hyun-Jin Ryu is working his way back, and the trade deadline is quickly approaching so the Jays can pick up some reinforcements there.

Gausman is undoubtedly the ace of the staff, as he has a 3.03 ERA and a 2.45 FIP in 115.2 innings pitched. He’s improved on his 28.3 K% in his first season, as his 2023 K% sits at 32.6%. However, his BB% has increased from 3.9% to 6.2%. However, his K-BB% of 26.4% is an improvement over his 24.4% the season prior.
With any lucky, this injury is minor, and it only pushes the 32-year-old’s start back a few days. Gausman is a big part of the starting rotation, so losing him would really suck.
