Things worth mentioning…

• Gausman rebounded from the so-so outing he threw in Minnesota over the weekend with a gem against Milwaukee. The righty scattered five hits and two walks over six-and-two-thirds shutout innings while striking out 11. Erik Swanson recorded four outs in relief of Gausman without allowing a baserunner and Jordan Romano allowed one run in the ninth inning but wound up recording the save.
• The Blue Jays did all of their scoring in the first inning of the game. Bo Bichette hit a solo homer to open the scoring and then Daulton Varsho hit a single and Matt Chapman hit a three-run bomb to extend the lead to 3-0. There were a few more chances to score after that but the Blue Jays weren’t able to cash in on a leadoff double by Tyler Heineman in the second inning or a bases-loaded situation in the eighth inning.
• Kevin Kiermaier made what might have been his most impressive catch as a Blue Jay to rob Andrew Monasterio of extra bases. He covered 92 feet at 30.4 feet-per-second to get into position to make that catch.
• Next up, the Blue Jays will hit the road for a three-game weekend series with the New York Mets and then they’ll head back home to host a four-game set with the Houston Astros and a three-game set with the Minnesota Twins.
