The Blue Jays will have a few more weeks to decide what to do with Mitch White.
According to Sportsnet’s Ben Nicholson-Smith, Mitch White has shoulder soreness, meaning that his rehab assignment has been paused.
The good news is that after it resumes, White will have an additional 30 games before he has to be added to the 26-man roster.
It would have been a hard decision for the Blue Jays, as White has struggled mightily on his rehab assignment. With the Buffalo Bisons, he has an 8.56 ERA and a 7.42 FIP in 13.2 innings pitched. Moreover, he has a 17.6 K% and a 16.2 BB%, which is bad, to say the least.
White is out of options, meaning that if the Blue Jays don’t add him to the 26-man roster upon completion of the rehab assignment, they will have to designate him for assignment, something that may not be ideal for what they gave up.
On August 2nd, 2022, the Blue Jays traded Nick Frasso and a rookie-league pitcher named Moises Brito for White and a prospect named Alex De Jesus.
This trade, that we’ll explore at a later date, is starting to look real bad for the Blue Jays. In 26.2 innings pitched with the Los Angeles Dodgers Double-A team, Frasso has amassed a 1.01 ERA and a 1.93 FIP in 26.2 innings pitched. Along with this, he has a 35 K% and a 4.9 BB%… which is very good. He also throws heat, and the pitches have a ton of movement.
Either way, White has a ton of team control remaining, so hopefully he can figure it out over his tenure like Ross Stripling did. With that being said, the Jays will have a little bit more time to figure out what to do with White.
