The Toronto Blue Jays will look to snap a six-game losing streak when they visit the Boston Red Sox for the opener of a three-game series on Monday at Fenway Park.
Toronto was swept by the Cleveland Guardians over the weekend after dropping three straight to the Red Sox at Rogers Centre last week.
Boston, meanwhile, has vaulted into the final American League wild-card spot with wins in nine of their last 11 games. The Red Sox took two of three from the Reds in Cincinnati over the weekend.
Let’s dive into the game odds for Monday’s clash between the Blue Jays and Red Sox courtesy of bet365:

Betting Toronto Blue Jays (35-42 SU, 37-40 ATS, 33-41-3 o/u)

The Blue Jays are in a free fall and they received more bad news Sunday when one of their top prospects, Orelvis Martinez, was suspended for 80 games for using a performance-enhancing drug. Martinez had just been called up to the big-league club and even collected his first major-league hit on Friday against the Guardians.
On a more positive note, shortstop Bo Bichette appears on track to return to action Tuesday after landing on the injured list with a calf injury. He’ll test out his ailing calf on the field Monday and could return Tuesday, when first eligible.
Scoring runs continues to be a problem for the Blue Jays, who have averaged just three runs per game during their current six-game losing streak. Toronto is averaging just 3.8 runs per game this season, which ranks 27th in the majors.

Betting Boston Red Sox (42-36 SU, 36-42 ATS, 35-38-5 o/u)

Not much was expected of the Red Sox this season, but the team is flourishing in many facets of the game. Offensively, the team ranks in the top 10 in the majors in runs per game (4.7), hits per game (8.7), team batting average (.254), on-base percentage (.323), slugging percentage (.742), OPS (.742), and stolen bases (78). What makes these numbers even more impressive is that the team has produced at this level without the services of injured sluggers Triston Casas and Trevor Story for the majority of the season.
On the pitching side, the team boasts a collective 3.45 ERA (fifth in majors) while holding opponents to a .233 batting average. The Red Sox aren’t known for their defence, though, as they own a MLB-worst .980 fielding percentage.

Probable starting pitchers

Toronto: TBD
Boston: RHP Tanner Houck (7-5, 2.14 ERA, 8.75 K/9, 0.97 WHIP)
Houch will try to replicate his results from last week against Toronto when he threw 5 2/3 innings of three-run ball (two earned runs) while striking out five. The right-hander has allowed more than three earned runs in a start just once in his 15 outings this season and he appears on his way to making his first All-Star appearance. His slider, which he throws roughly 42% of the time, is absolutely lethal, holding the opposition to a .190 batting average this season.

Weather

It should be a pleasant evening for baseball in Boston, with temperatures around 24 C expected under clear skies. Winds will be blowing out to right field at 10 mph.

MLB betting trends

  • The Red Sox are 3-0 SU and 2-1 ATS in three games against the Blue Jays this year.
  • The Red Sox are just 14-24 ATS at Fenway Park this season.
  • Toronto is 20-20 ATS in 40 away games this season.

MLB player prop trends

  • Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran has hit safely in 13 straight games, recording eight multi-hit contests in that span. Duran collected four hits across three games against the Blue Jays last week, including a majestic home run last Wednesday.
  • Houck has recorded five or more strikeouts in each of his last seven outings, including last week against the Blue Jays. He’s -165 to record over 4.5 strikeouts.
  • Red Sox outfielder Tyler O’Neill launched three home runs in three games against Toronto last week. He’s slashing .340/.407/.660 in June with four homers and nine RBIs.
  • Blue Jays third baseman Isiah Kiner-Falefa is riding an eight-game hitting steak into action Monday. He launched a pair of homers on Saturday against the Guardians.

Blue Jays vs. Red Sox predictions

  • Red Sox moneyline: -150. We’re getting a decent price here on the Red Sox, at home, with one of their best starting pitchers on the mound against a team that has lost six straight games and is sinking fast. The Blue Jays still haven’t announced their pitching plans for this series with the Red Sox as of Monday morning. If you shop around at other online sportsbooks, you can still find the Red Sox at around -140 odds.
