The Toronto Blue Jays will kick off a six-game road trip on Tuesday when they visit the Cleveland Guardians for the opener of a three-game set.
It was a disappointing weekend for Toronto, which dropped two of three games to the lowly Chicago White Sox at Rogers Centre. However, the team still went a respectable 3-3 on that homestand and is 19-11 over its last 30 games.
Cleveland, meanwhile, is back home after a 4-5 road trip. After being swept by the Seattle Mariners to open the trip, the Guardians took two of three from both the Giants and Athletics. Both Toronto and Cleveland were off Monday.
Let’s take a look at the game odds for Tuesday’s series opener between the Blue Jays and Guardians, courtesy of bet365.

About the Blue Jays (41-36 SU, 44-33 ATS, 40-35-2 o/u)

Following an embarrassing series loss to the White Sox, the Blue Jays now begin a critical stretch in their schedule. After three games in Cleveland, the Blue Jays will travel to Fenway Park for three games with the Boston Red Sox before returning home to host the New York Yankees for four games over Canada Day.
Toronto, which sits in the second American League wild-card spot entering play Tuesday, trails the Yankees by just 3 1/2 games for the top spot in the AL East.
Bo Bichette has been swinging a hot bat for the Blue Jays, slashing .407/.429/.815 with three homers and seven RBIs over the last seven days.

About the Guardians (39-37 SU, 39-37 ATS, 30-42-4 o/u)

The Guardians seemingly always find a way to be competitive year after year despite consistently rostering low payrolls. They’re just a half game out of a wild-card spot entering this series, so taking at least two of three from the Blue Jays at home would certainly help their chances of moving into a playoff spot heading into the All-Star break in a few weeks.
The team has struggled offensively this month, posting the worst OPS in the majors (.614). The Guardians have launched just 15 homers over their last 19 games, and their .215 batting average is also the worst in baseball in June.
However, the Guardians do own the lowest ERA (2.93) in the majors this month while holding opponents to a .236 batting average.
Cleveland took two of three from the Blue Jays at Rogers Centre in early May.

Probable starting pitchers

Toronto: LHP Eric Lauer (3-1, 2.29 ERA, 9.17 K/9)
Lauer has been excellent as a starter and out of the bullpen for the Blue Jays this season. The southpaw held the Arizona Diamondbacks to one run over five innings while striking out eight last time out to pick up his third win of the season. Cleveland has posted a .618 OPS against lefties this season, the fifth-worst mark in the majors.
Cleveland: LHP Logan Allen (5-4, 4.21 ERA, 6.78 K/9)
Allen is a soft-tossing lefty who welcomes contact, so there should be plenty of balls in play on Tuesday. He also has some interesting reverse splits, with left-handed batters slashing a lofty .308/.393/.481 against him this season (right-handed batters own a .257/.332/.391 slash line against him). The 26-year-old southpaw does a good job of limiting hard contact with his off-speed pitches, but the opposition has raked his subpar fastball, hitting .339 with a .525 slugging percentage off the pitch.

Notable injuries

Pitchers Ryan Burr (shoulder), Bowden Francis (shoulder), Max Scherzer (thumb), and Yimi Garcia (shoulder) are all on the injured list for Toronto although Scherzer is slated to come off the IL to make the start tomorrow in Cleveland. Outfielders Daulton Varsho (hamstring) and Anthony Santander (shoulder) are also on the shelf.
Pitchers John Means (elbow), Shane Bieber (elbow), and Paul Sewald (shoulder) are on the IL for Cleveland.

Weather

Forecasts are calling for temperatures around 29 C and clear skies on Tuesday evening in Cleveland. Winds will be blowing in from left field at 6 mph.

Blue Jays vs. Guardians betting trends

  • The Guardians are 7-3 straight up in the past 10 meetings.
  • The under is 7-0 in Cleveland’s last seven games.
  • The Blue Jays have hit the first five innings team total over in eight of their last nine away games.
  • The Guardians have hit the first five innings team total under in 16 of their last 23 home games.

Blue Jays vs. Guardians player prop trends

  • Steven Kwan has exceeded his line of 1.5 total bases in four straight games and five of his last 10. He’s around +130 to beat that number again.
  • Bichette has driven in at least one run in three straight games and seven of his last 10. He’s around +145 to record an RBI.
  • George Springer has excellent career splits vs. Allen: 3-for-7, two home runs, two walks, and a 1.841 OPS.

Blue Jays vs. Guardians best bet

  • Ernie Clement to record over 1.5 hits: +210 for one unit (best odds @ DraftKings). Clement has absolutely destroyed left-handed pitching this season, slashing .434/.470/.724 against southpaws over 76 at-bats. He’s also posted three consecutive multi-hit efforts overall and is hitting an impressive .373 this month. The Blue Jays third baseman has beaten this line in four of his last five games with a left-handed starter on the mound and seven of his last 10, making this an excellent wager at juicy +210 odds.
