The Toronto Blue Jays’ bullpen could have an easy addition heading into the 2027 season if they so chose.
Pending free agent reliever Taylor Rogers recently told The Minnesota Star Tribune’s Bobby Nightengale that if he doesn’t re-sign with the Minnesota Twins, he would like to join his brother Tyler Rogers in Toronto.
Rogers appeared in 65 games with the Twins during the 2026 campaign and during that span, the left-hander went 6-4 with a 4.33 ERA and a 1.59 WHIP. Across 60.1 innings pitched, Rogers struck out 54 batters and was hit at a .277 clip.
The Blue Jays signed the right-hander Rogers (Tyler) to a three-year, $37-million contract on December 15, 2025, and the move instantly paid dividends in Toronto’s bullpen. Rogers pitched in 74 games and went 2-3 with a 1.77 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP. Not a strikeout pitcher by any means – highlighted by 40 across 71 innings – Rogers excelled at keeping opposing batters off-balance. Rogers finished in the top 1% in MLB in opponents’ average exit velocity and hard-hit percentage.
If the two identical twins were to pair up in Toronto, it wouldn’t be the first time in their careers they spent time on the same roster. The two joined forces in San Francisco in 2023 after the Giants signed Taylor to a three-year, $33-million contract in December 2022, to join Tyler. The brothers spent both the 2023 and 2024 seasons together before Taylor was traded to the Cincinnati Reds on December 29, 2025.
Currently in the Blue Jays’ bullpen, they have workhorse Mason Fluharty set to return as the high-leverage left-hander after he appeared in a league-leading 83 games and posted a 3.30 ERA. Behind Fluharty, the only other lefties on the Blue Jays’ 40-man roster are Brendan Cellucci, Ricky Tiedemann, and Brendon Little, so the addition of another proven left-hander makes sense.
For his career, Rogers has pitched in 631 games with the Twins, San Diego Padres, Milwaukee Brewers, Giants, Reds, and Chicago Cubs over his 11-year career. The 35-year-old is 37-40 with a 3.44 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP. Rogers has struck out 680 batters across 601.1 innings pitched.
