The Toronto Blue Jays have some contract stability behind the plate, with FanSided’s Robert Murray reporting that the Toronto Blue Jays have extended backstop Alejandro Kirk to a five-year extension worth $58 million. The deal keeps the Mexican product in a Blue Jays uniform through his 31st birthday, with Kirk eligible for free agency following the 2026 season before this newest deal.
The terms/breakdown of the contract have not been released, although Murray reported that there are no options and that a signing bonus is included in the contract.
Kirk enters the 2025 campaign as the go-to option behind the plate, especially with Danny Jansen no longer in the picture. Debuting in 2020, the right-handed batter owns a .264/.344/.391 slash line through 434 games and has 36 home runs and 187 RBIs to go with his .735 OPS.

Where Kirk excels the most is on the defensive side, with the backstop producing a +36 DRS over the past five seasons. Last year, he ranked in the 97th percentile in throwing out base runners (+8) and in the 93rd percentile in framing (+9), an art form in its own right.
With Kirk now on the books for the foreseeable future, the Jays have some additional stability on the roster at a time when core players are starting to enter free agency. Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette, and Chris Bassitt are all eligible next winter while Kevin Gausman, George Springer, Daulton Varsho, and Jose Berrios (player option) can test the market as well.
Kirk now joins Andres Gimenez, Yariel Rodriguez, and Anthony Santander as guaranteed money through the 2028 season.
