One of the Toronto Blue Jays’ highest-ranked prospects is set to be challenged at the next level.
On Monday, MiLB Central’s Chase Ford reported that right-hander Gage Stanifer is being promoted from Double-A New Hampshire to Triple-A Buffalo to join the Bisons.
Stanifer is the Blue Jays’ No. 10-ranked prospect and has been touted as one of the most talented arms in the Blue Jays’ farm system after being selected by the club in the 19th round of the 2022 MLB draft.
After appearing in two games with the Fisher Cats to close out the 2025 season, Stanifer was assigned to New Hampshire to begin the 2026 campaign. Through 28 games (19 starts) this season, Stanifer is 6-8 with a 4.82 ERA and a 1.55 WHIP. The 22-year-old has struck out 133 batters across 97 innings and held opponents to a .235 average during that span.
While those numbers don’t jump off the page at first glance, Stanifer has greatly improved his numbers since being moved from the Fisher Cats’ rotation to the bullpen at the beginning of August. Stanifer entered August with a 3-7 record, 5.11 ERA, and a 1.56 WHIP, but had walked 49 batters across 81 innings.
Since the role change, Stanifer has gone 3-1 with a 3.38 ERA and has continued to mow hitters down, highlighted by 27 strikeouts across his 16 innings of relief. While the walks have still continued to give him fits, highlighted by 15 in those 16 frames, the swing-and-miss ability brings an excitement as the righty prepares to take on his next challenge.
In his two outings during the month of September, Stanifer has worked one inning of each of those appearances after being used for multiple frames in five of his first seven relief appearances. Stanifer held opponents to a .184 average in August before allowing zero hits through his first two September outings, showcasing just how much talent he possesses.
