On Friday, two recognizable voices from the Toronto Blue Jays’ broadcasts were presented with prestigious 2026 Canadian Screen Awards.
Sportsnet’s Hazel Mae was awarded the Gordon Sinclair Award for Broadcast Journalism in recognition for outstanding contribution to Canadian sports media. Mae has been with Sportsnet since 2001 and serves the role of on-field reporter.
Mae is often seen on Blue Jays Central, where her exclusive interviews with Blue Jays players are aired. The 56-year-old contributes to Sportnet’s pre-game shows with consistent player updates as well as news surrounding the club.
This is the second straight year Mae has received an award for her work. In 2025, Mae was presented with the Jack Graney Award by the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame, given to a member of the media who made significant contributions to baseball in Canada through their life’s work.
The second member of Sportsnet’s team to receive an award on Friday was Dan Shulman. Shulman was named Best Sports Play-by-Play announcer for his work during Blue Jays telecasts. Shulman previously won this award for his work during the 2022 season.
Shulman returned for his second stint with the Blue Jays before the 2016 regular season after 15 years away from the club. Shulman, a Toronto native, spent a large portion of his career working for ESPN on both its baseball and NCAA basketball broadcasts.
This award adds to the decorated career that Shulman has put together to this point of his broadcasting life. Shulman was the 2011 NSMA National Sportscaster of the Year, two-time Sports Media Broadcaster of the Year, the Jack Graney Award winner in 2020, and is a three-time finalist for the National Baseball Hall of Fame’s Ford C. Brick Award.
