The Toronto Blue Jays have placed reliever Trevor Richards on the 15-day IL with a strained neck, the club announced Saturday ahead of a matinee against the New York Yankees.
In a subsequent move, lefty reliever Matt Gage was recalled from the Triple-A Bisons.
Richards had a tough go of it Friday night against the Yanks. He drew in during the fifth inning and in his 1 IP, he allowed three earned runs that included a grand slam to Anthony Rizzo.
Gage, meanwhile, has yo-yo’d between the bigs and Triple-A this year. In 5 IP with the Jays, he’s posted a 1.80 ERA and a strong .6 WHIP.
The Blue Jays bullpen continues to be battered and bruised. Lefties Tayler Saucedo and Andrew Vazquez are already on the IL, with Julien Merryweather and Nate Pearson working back from injury, too.
