The Dodgers are the only team that consistently is making transactions this off-season.

On Thursday evening, the deal with the Tampa Bay Rays officially went through, with the Rays sending Tyler Glasnow and Manuel Margot to the Dodgers. In return, the Rays received right-handed pitcher Ryan Pepiot and outfielder Jonny Deluca. Glasnow must sign an extension for the deal to go through.

Glasnow has had an… interesting career to say the least. He was part of the Chris Archer trade from Pittsburgh, which included Austin Meadows and Shane Baz. In hindsight, it was a really bad trade for the Pirates.
As for Glasnow, he’s alternated between great years and good years, with a bunch of injuries in between. His breakout year was in 2019, when he had a 1.78 ERA and a 2.26 FIP in 60.2 innings pitched in his first full season with the Rays. In May of that year, he headed to the 60-day Injured List and didn’t return until September.

He had a great 2021 season, posting a 2.66 ERA and a 2.77 FIP in 88 innings pitched, along with a 36.2 K% and a 7.9 BB%. However, he had a partial tear in the UCL which later required Tommy John surgery which made him miss the majority of the 2022 season as well.
The 2023 season was the healthiest he’s had, but missed the start of the season due to a left oblique strain. He pitched a career-high 120 innings, and had a 3.53 ERA and a 2.91 FIP, along with a 33.4 K% and a 7.6 BB%.
When healthy, Glasnow is a solid #2 in the rotation.  However, it seems like season after season, he picks up an injury which limits his innings.
Let’s just take a brief gander at other players involved in this trade.
Manuel Margot slashed .264/.310/.376 with four homers in 336 plate appearances for a 93 wRC+. His career-high in terms of wRC+ came in 2022, when he had a 105 wRC+, and his career-high in fWAR was 2.4 in 2021.
Ryan Pepiot has a 2.76 ERA and a 4.76 FIP in 78.1 innings pitched in the big leagues, along with a 25.1 K% and a 10 BB%. The 26-year-old is under contract until 2029, so the Rays get five seasons of team control. Expect him to be a thorn in the Blue Jays’ side for years to come.

Jonny Deluca slashed .294/.390/.566 with 17 home runs in 326 plate appearances between Double-A and Triple-A for the Dodgers in 2023, giving him a 136 wRC+. The 24-year-old outfielder earned a promotion to the big leagues, where he slashed .262/.311/.429 with two homers in 45 plate appearances.
In return for Chris Archer, the Rays received Tyler Glasnow, Austin Meadows, Shane Baz, Isaac Paredes (traded for Meadows), Ryan Cermak (pick was traded for Meadows), Ryan Pepiot, and Jonny Deluca. Let’s not trade with the Rays.
