The Blue Jays got embarrassed at Yankee Stadium, but the chasing teams didn’t make up any ground

That was… ugly. The Blue Jays got their asses thoroughly handed to them over the past three nights in New York, but, thankfully, all of the other non-playoff teams “chasing” them are really, really bad, so it didn’t matter all that much.

Things worth mentioning…

  • What can you even say about that performance? Oof. A 20-6 loss on Tuesday, a 12-3 loss on Wednesday, and a 10-7 loss on Thursday. The Jays got outscored by a whopping 42-16 and that would have looked a lot worse if not for a few runs scored in ninth-inning garbage time. The exclamation point came when Chase Anderson allowed the Yankees to hit five homers in one inning. That was key in helping the Yankees set a Major League record for runs in a three-game series with fucking 18.
  • These certainly ain’t the same Yanks we saw in Buffalo last week. You know, the ones who allowed 10 runs in one inning and then bitched about the lightning and all that. New York’s lineup with Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge is obviously much, much better than the Quad-A lineup they trotted out earlier. But, another thing to consider, is that the Yankees seem to be, uh, substantially better at Yankee Stadium than anywhere else? Is their home park the only one around with good lighting?
  • Anyways, that sucked ass and I’m glad it’s over. Thankfully, nobody behind the Jays in standings did anything either. While the Jays were getting their teeth kicked in over the past three days, the Orioles, Tigers, and Mariners combined to go 2-7. Cleveland has passed the Jays so they’re in eighth now, but Toronto has a four-and-a-half game lead on Seattle and a five-game lead on both Baltimore and Detroit.
  • Next, we’ll head to Philadelphia for a four-game series in which Aaron Nola, Zack Wheeler, and Jake Arrieta won’t be pitching. Things really should go better this weekend, though the bar isn’t very high!
