The second Canadian draftee has signed with the Blue Jays.
On Tuesday morning, MLB Pipeline’s Jim Callis announced that the Blue Jays have signed left-handed pitcher Connor O’Halloran to a bonus of $337,500.
Last season with the University of Michigan, the 20-year-old from Mississauga, Ontario posted a 4.11 ERA in 103 innings pitched, along with a 25.5 K% and a 6 BB%. For his entire collegiate career, O’Halloran had a 4.98 ERA in 202.1 innings pitched with a 25 K5 and an 8.1 BB%.
Standing at 6’2, 190 lbs, O’Halloran sits anywhere from 87-93 mph with the fastball, with a low-80s slider being his best pitch. He has excellent control and command of his pitches, and there’s a lot of deception in how he throws the ball.
A masterful start by Connor O'Halloran saw the sophomore lefty record 13 strikeouts in 8.0 innings of work as Michigan defeated Dayton 2-1 Thursday evening. #GoBlue
The slot value for this pick is $385,000, meaning that the Blue Jays saved $47,500. Regarding the remaining bonus pool, the Blue Jays have $1,496,832 remaining to spend on 14 players. Like always, it’s worth mentioning that players drafted from rounds 11-20 have a slot value of $150,000, which doesn’t count against the bonus pool unless they sign for more.
The Jays still have quite a few players from rounds 3-10 to sign, such as Juaron Watts-Brown, Jace Bohrofen (who actually just signed as I write this), Braden Barry, and Josh Mollerus.
