<p>Rosenthal was a dominant closer for the St. Louis Cardinals for a good chunk of the 2010s but injuries have derailed his career over the recent years.</p>
<p>He was shut down mid-way through the 2017 season when with the Cardinals, had Tommy John Surgery, missed all of 2018, resurfaced in 2018, and allowed 23 earned runs over the course of 15 1/3 innings with the Detroit Tigers and Washington Nationals.</p>
<p>The following season, Rosenthal inked a minor-league deal with the Kansas City Royals and did well, posting a 3.29 ERA over 13 2/3 innings. The Royals dealt Rosenthal to the San Diego Padres as part of their playoff push, and he didn&#8217;t allow a run and struck out 17 batters over 10 innings with them.</p>
<p>Despite that strong showing, Rosenthal was only able to net a one-year, $11 million deal in free agency with the Oakland A&#8217;s. He never made an appearance with the team, as he suffered a groin injury in spring training and then shoulder issues kept him on the Injured List early in the season. Rosenthal wound up getting shoulder surgery done and then he had to get hip surgery later in the season.</p>
<p>Given Rosenthal&#8217;s injury history, it&#8217;s difficult to get too excited about the possibility of him coming up and being an impact reliever on a big-league club this season. Still, there&#8217;s never any risk in adding an arm on a minor-league deal, and the Blue Jays could really use somebody who can throw gas and strike guys out in their bullpen, so he&#8217;s certainly worth a look.</p>
