<p>I was paralyzed in confusion when At Bat told me that the Jays simultaneously pulled ahead 1-0 and went down 1-0, but after a few seconds of hard, critical thinking, I realized that they were playing split squad games today. I too am in spring training mode.</p>
<p>The jays won twice today, one was a pounding of the Pirates and the other was a tight win over the Tigers, so let&#8217;s talk about what happened.</p>

<li>Does anybody remember that Rogers commercial where one dude is on his phone and he yells &#8220;A DOUBLE, SWEEEEET!&#8221; before it happens on TV? I can&#8217;t find it for the life of me but would love to reference it in an article about the Jays winning <em>two games </em>in one day. Hopefully this lame explanation was vivid enough and had the same effect.</li>
<li>The Jays beat the crap out of the Pirates 13-4 for their first big offensive explosion of 2018. We&#8217;ll talk about that game first.</li>
<li>J.A. Happ made his third start of the spring and he was solid once again. After going one and two innings in his first two starts, the lefty reached three innings this time out. He came out for a fourth, but walked Gregory Polanco. Immediately after, Daddy Barnes came in and allowed a homer to Josh Bell. So, all told, Happ was charged with one earned run on two hits and two walks over the three innings.</li>
<li>Barnes finished off his inning with two strikeouts after allowing the homer, then John Axford came in and struck out two guys and walked one, Craig Breslow and Matt Dermody each tossed a clean inning, and Rhiner Cruz and Dusty Isaacs closed the game allowing a run each.</li>
<li>The offence, though. It was very good. The dingers especially were good. Devon Travis clubbed a two-run bomb in the second inning, Russell Martin his a solo bomb in the fourth, Roemon Fields and Curtis Granderson went back-to-back in the fifth, and Dwight Smith Jr. got in on the fun with a two-run jack in the seventh.</li>

<li>After that, Deck McGuire continued his Redemption Tour with two innings in which he scattered two hits and struck two guys out. I am so extremely here for Toronto Blue Jay Deck McGuire damn-near-a-decade-later-than-expected. This is easily one of the best things about spring training so far.</li>
<li>Speaking of former Blue Jays first round picks, Jon Harris came into the game next and allowed a two-run bomb to Nick Castellanos that gave the Tigers the lead. After that, though, Jose Fernandez, Andrew Case, and Justin Shafer slammed the door.</li>
<li>There were a lot of good Large Adult Sons moments in this game. In the second, Danny Jansen clubbed a double and drove in Teoscar Hernandez.
