In the 10th inning of last night&#8217;s game against the Yankees, Tim Mayza tossed a wild pitch and immediately collapsed to the ground in pain. He grabbed his forearm and used his jersey to wipe tears from his eyes. It was an absolutely devastating and gut-wrenching scene to watch.

You could tell immediately based off of Mayza&#8217;s reaction that this wasn&#8217;t good. This morning, it was reported that Mayza will need to undergo Tommy John surgery to repair a torn ACL.

At the age of 27, the former 13th-round pick from the 2013 draft was starting to establish himself as a Major League reliever. He was up and down in 2017 and 2018, but, this season, he had become one of the Blue Jays&#8217; most leaned on pitchers out of the &#8216;pen. His entire 2020 season will be very likely be wiped out due to the surgery and the focus will shift to getting him back in 2021.
