Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Matt Chapman will play through inflammation in his right wrist, the club said Friday.
Chapman has been in and out of the lineup over the last week dealing with it, and the Blue Jays say he will be able to play through it.
Shortstop Bo Bichette, meanwhile, is out Friday after suffering a foot contusion in Thursday’s loss to the Baltimore Orioles. He’s reported to be out day-to-day.
Lastly, Danny Jansen, who is recovering from a broken finger, is beginning some “light baseball activity” including some receiving work and dry swings.
To offset Bichette being out of the lineup, the club brought Otto Lopez onto the taxi squad.
The only major change to the Jays’ lineup will be Santiago Espinal joining the lineup at shortstop and will bat second in the order in Friday’s series opener against the Yankees. Ross Stripling gets the start, and Gabriel Moreno will catch as the scorching hot Alejandro Kirk bats clean up as the DH.
